Imam Hamza Ibn Habib Az-Zayat (Imam Hamza) was a famous muqri’ (Quran teacher) in Al-Kufa, which is now a city in modern-day Iraq. He is famed for his vision that Allah (SWT) spoke to him directly, and that he (Hamza) was covered with perfume of beautiful fragrance, and that Allah (SWT) gave him glad tidings for his proper memorisation, understanding and application of the Holy Quran.

He taught many students as a muqri’, the two most famous ones are Khalaf Al -Bazzr and Khallad al-Bagdadi, which had the two recitation modes named after them.
